In 2009 Carla Matos decided to change her professional career and embrace jewelry as a way to express her creativity and passion for design. Her work comes from a constant search for new aesthetic and functional values in unusual materials: rubber, plastics, acrylic, steel, carbon fiber, and other industrial components. She draws inspiration from materials by observing them not for their current form, but for the potential they possess. Matter inspires her to create jewelry. From the beginning, she defied traditional notions of what jewelry is supposed to be. The upcycling approach emphasizes concept and meaning over economical value, producing pieces with inherent emotional worth.
