Accessibility statement
Commitment to Accessibility
YUMPU Publishing is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users. We aim to make our services as inclusive and barrier-free as possible in accordance with applicable accessibility regulations and the international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as referenced in Directive (EU) 2016/2102.
YUMPU Publishing is headquartered in Switzerland and ownd by i-Magazine AG. However, as our services are also accessible to users in the European Union, this accessibility statement follows the structure and core principles of Directive (EU) 2016/2102 and anticipates the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA), effective from 28 June 2025.
This accessibility statement applies to the website www.yumpu.com as well as affiliated editorial content published on blog.yumpu.com and en.blog.yumpu.com.
Scope
This accessibility statement applies to the website www.yumpu.com as well as affiliated editorial content published on blog.yumpu.com, en.blog.yumpu.com and all other subdomains from yumpu.com.
Accessibility Status
The website and blogs are partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Some content and components do not fully conform due to known accessibility issues outlined below.
Non-Accessible Content
a) Known Accessibility Issues
Some parts of this website are not fully accessible due to the following known issues:
- Insufficient contrast in some text and interactive elements
- Keyboard navigation may not always follow a logical focus order
- Some buttons or icons may lack accessible names or ARIA labels
- Not all images include descriptive alternative text
- Some dynamically rendered content (e.g., HTML versions of PDF documents) may lack proper semantic structure for screen reader
- Certain videos may not offer captions or audio descriptions.
- Issues may occur when zooming to 200% or using high contrast settings.
We are actively working to resolve these issues and improve compliance.
b) Disproportionate Burden
Some legacy video content does not include audio descriptions. Retrofitting all historical media is considered a disproportionate burden. Future content will comply with accessibility standards.
c) Content Outside the Scope of Applicable Legislation
Some third-party content and documents published prior to September 23, 2018, may not be fully accessible (e.g., untagged PDFs). We are gradually replacing or updating such documents where feasible.
Responsibility for Accessibility: Platform vs. Published Content
YUMPU Publishing is responsible for the accessibility of the platform’s user interface and technical infrastructure. This includes the design and navigation of both the public-facing website (frontend) and the publisher backend (e.g., dashboard, upload and publishing tools). We are committed to making these components compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA wherever possible.
However, the content presented via the YUMPU platform – such as uploaded PDF documents, images, videos, and metadata – is entirely provided by third-party users (publishers). These users are fully responsible for the accessibility of their own content, including compliance with accessibility standards such as PDF/UA, the provision of alternative text, captions, appropriate contrast, and semantic markup.
We do not modify or verify uploaded content for accessibility. Additionally, content-specific settings such as visibility preferences and the default reading mode (e.g., flip or scroll) are determined solely by the publisher. As a result, the accessibility of individual publications may vary.
While we cannot enforce accessibility for third-party content, we actively support and encourage our users to publish accessible materials by offering documentation, best-practice guidance, and technical features that facilitate accessible publishing.
Evaluation and Review
This accessibility statement was prepared in May 2025.
The accessibility of the YUMPU Publishing platform was evaluated by means of a self-assessment using automated tools (e.g., Axe DevTools, WAVE), manual keyboard and screen reader testing, and zoom and contrast checks. The assessment was conducted in accordance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines.
New platform features and interface components are reviewed on a quarterly basis by our internal product and QA teams to ensure ongoing compliance.
This statement was last reviewed and updated on June 24, 2025.
