GREETINGS
Dear Prospective Candidate,
Thank you for prayerfully considering applying for the Executive Director position of One Eighty. We know that God
has already gone out before us and is stirring in the heart of the person He has called to fill this position.
One Eighty is a Christian nonprofit with the mission of equipping people with addiction facing crisis, poverty,
incarceration, or homelessness to experience lasting transformation through healthy community, meaningful work,
and a life of hope in Christ. We employ 34 people in our mission, 80% of whom are graduates of our recovery program.
God is doing beautiful redemptive work through our staff and recovery family that now includes 249 graduates over
the last 16 years. At the core of our DNA, we feel called to walk deeply alongside people physically, spiritually, and
emotionally as they build a life they WANT to live - a life free of substances and full of love, humility, and service. Our
services are free, fully supported by the many churches, individuals, businesses, and community champions who
believe every single person displays the image of God and is here for a purpose - and no one is ever too far gone for
redemption and restoration.
We are located along the Mississippi River in the Quad Cities which is made up of Davenport and Bettendorf on the
Iowa side and Moline and Rock Island on the Illinois side. Our recoverees come from the greater Quad Cities - and in
truth across the Midwest and nation. I can attest that the Quad Cities offers many of the desired amenities of a large
city (airport, colleges, entertainment, activities, museums, a diverse environment, etc.) without many of the
inconveniences (high cost of living, lots of traffic, higher crime rates, etc.).
We’re looking for someone whose heart breaks for those with addiction facing crisis, poverty, incarceration, or
homelessness and who will faithfully lead God’s people toward sober living as we bring redemption, restoration, and
healing into their lives. We hope you will prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to lead our people and
steward One Eighty’s resources as we live out our purpose until every Quad Citian is engaged in healthy community,
living free of crisis, poverty and addiction. We look forward to your application if you think this might be you!

and confidence while contributing meaningfully to the organization’s sustainability. Nearly 80% of staff are program
graduates, creating a distinctive peer-to-peer recovery model marked by authenticity, accountability, and deep
relational connection.
Over the past several years, One Eighty has grown from a grassroots, founder-led ministry into a maturing nonprofit
organization with stronger systems, greater mission clarity, clearer program language, improved outcome
measurement, and a more engaged board. Stakeholders consistently affirm the ministry’s strong Christian foundation,
its reputation within the community, and its remarkable life-changing stories.
This leadership transition represents a pivotal season of integration and intentional growth. One Eighty has moved

VALUES
SURRENDERED TO CHRIST
• We model a life of surrender, sacrifice, and service.
• We live authentically and with integrity.
• We approach everything with prayer and open hands.
INVESTED IN PEOPLE
• We know every human bears the image of God and can overcome
barriers to freedom when they are redeemed and restored.
• We accept people where they are and equip them for
transformation.
• We see people as full of potential and hold them accountable to live
out their purpose.
COMMITTED TO COMMUNITY
• We create genuine, safe and loving community as the incubator for
life change.
• We invest in healthy relationships with the Lord and others.
• We give grace even when we disagree.
LABORING IN LOVE
• We embrace difficult people, situations, and decisions.
• We rely on grit, perseverance, and hope in Christ in all we do.
• We believe nothing is ever wasted when authentically loving others.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
GOD
We believe there is one sovereign God, Creator of all things, who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
inviting humanity into a restored relationship with Him and with one another.
Scripture:
Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; Deuteronomy 6:4
JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,
lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose physically from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return.
Jesus is the only Savior and the true source of freedom, healing, and life.
Scripture:
John 1:14; Luke 2:11; 1 Corinthians 15:2-6; Acts 1:11; Acts 4:12; John 14:6; Romans 5:8; Matthew 1:20-23
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells believers, glorifies Jesus, convicts of sin, empowers obedience, and produces
spiritual fruit. He is active today, guiding and sustaining the life of faith.
Scripture:
John 16:13-15; Romans 8:11; Galatians 5:22-23
SCRIPTURE
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired and trustworthy Word. Scripture is our final authority for faith and practice. It
reveals God’s character, His design for human flourishing, and His desire to restore what is broken.
Scripture:
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Psalm 119:105
HUMANITY
We believe every human being is created in the image of God and possesses inherent dignity, value, and worth. To be
human is to be made for relationship with God and with others.
Scripture:
Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13-14; Matthew 22:37-39
THE HUMAN CONDITION
We believe humanity fell into sin through our own choices, resulting in brokenness in our relationship with God,
others, and ourselves. All people are affected by sin and are in need of grace, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
Scripture:
Romans 3:23; Genesis 3; 2 Corinthians 5:20
STATEMENT OF FAITH
SALVATION & TRANSFORMATION
We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and is available to all. Through
the work of the Holy Spirit, we are made right before God. As a new creation, we are continually transformed into the
likeness of Christ as we submit to Him and trust Him more.
Scripture:
Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:17, 21; Romans 8:1-11; John 3:16
HOPE & RESTORATION
We believe Jesus Christ will return to earth and bring justice and restoration. Eternal life with Him will be granted to
those who believe, and eternal separation to those who reject Him. This hope anchors our present work and gives
meaning to perseverance in difficult situations.
Scripture:
Revelation 21:1-5; Titus 2:13; John 10:10, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Revelation 20:15
SEXUALITY & GENDER
We believe God intentionally and immutably creates human beings as male and female. These two distinct sexes
together reflect the image of God. Marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman, and sexual intimacy is a
good gift designed to be expressed within the covenant of marriage. Celibacy in singleness is also a gift from the Lord
and provides opportunities for service to the Lord. This reflects God’s created order and His intentions for human
flourishing.
Scripture:
Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:24; Romans 1:24-27; John 1:14; Matthew 19:10-12; 1 Corinthians 7:7-9, 32-35
COMMUNITY & THE CHURCH
We believe God’s redemptive work is carried out within community. While salvation is received personally, it is meant
to be lived out and matured within authentic Christian community. The Church plays a vital role in discipleship,
worship, accountability, and mission. God uses the Church to proclaim the gospel, nurture faith, and embody His
Kingdom in the world.
Scripture:
Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
ADDICTION
We believe human beings are created to love God above all else and love others as themselves. We recognize that
when our love turns to idols (things other than the Lord), we are left unsatisfied. Addiction can be one expression of
filling that void. We thus acknowledge that addiction is both a physical reality and a spiritual condition.
Scripture:
Jeremiah 2:13; Romans 1:25; Matthew 11:28-30; Matthew 22:37-40
PROGRAMS
Residential Recovery
One Eighty offers a year-long residential recovery program for men and women with addiction facing crisis, poverty,
homelessness, or incarceration. This is a holistic program designed to help people who authentically want to change
their lives. Living at One Eighty is more like joining a big (sober) family than starting a program. Recoverees earn
increasing levels of independence as they explore how to build a thriving life filled with positive relationships and
purpose. While in the program, One Eighty provides:
• Housing and basic needs including food benefits, state insurance, and access to medical/mental healthcare.
• Preparation for future employment through 7 months of participation in workforce readiness training to build
skills, work ethic, references, and assistance in finding employment after completion of the training.
• Consistent support and coaching from a case manager and people in recovery.
• Family-like atmosphere with deep relationships.
• Life skills classes on things like budgeting, relationships, employment preparation, nutrition, self-care, and
communication.
• Support groups including regular sessions with our mental health advisor, working on recovery skills, and help
healing from trauma.
• Spiritual formation through Bible studies and church.
• One-on-one mentoring.
• The opportunity to develop a new sober identity, positive thinking patterns, patience, and purpose.
• Access to long-term sober living after graduation.
• Free housing (room rent is charged if/when a person has income).
Stability Housing and Alumni Support
Upon successful completion of the residential program, recoverees can choose to live in one of One Eighty’s sixty
units of Stability Housing. This is affordable, safe, and sober housing that is near the One Eighty campus to promote
continued use of resources and community. One Eighty provides several ongoing supports to alumni, including
transportation and resources as needed, a support group, alumni events and outings, access to The Zone (a sober
recovery lounge), and opportunities to serve as mentors to new recoverees. If people relapse or continue to struggle
after graduation, they can return to campus for more intensive recovery support. One Eighty commits to walking with
people over the long haul as long as they are committed to pursuing recovery.
PROGRAMS
One Eighty believes true healing and life change comes only when someone understands their purpose in this world.
One Eighty Enterprises is a tool for connecting recoverees to purposeful work that allows them to learn new skills,
contribute to the greater good, and discover their passion for a career. This work provides them with a record of
recent employment and a professional job reference when they eventually seek outside employment.
Recoverees participate in the workforce readiness training program called One Eighty Enterprise approximately 30
hours a week. All Enterprise crews are run by graduates of the program. The net profit from Enterprises goes directly
back into One Eighty to help offset costs of running the ministry. One Eighty’s Enterprise businesses are available for
hire by the general public to do work such as landscaping, snow removal, commercial cleaning, remodeling, and
painting.
Quest for Christ is a unique ministry to kids attending public elementary schools in Davenport, Bettendorf, and
Pleasant Valley. Most Quest for Christ clubs meet once per week either directly after school or directly before school
for approximately 13 weeks. The mission is to point kids to the hope and love of Jesus Christ as they encounter the
daily challenges of public school. Quest Clubs currently serve 335 students in 12 different Quad Cities elementary
schools.
HISTORY
One Eighty began out of the testimony of Rusty Boruff, the founder, who spent many years as a homeless addict
and eventually found himself sitting in cell 121. He spent a year of his life behind bars, where he met Jesus.
After his release, Rusty and a few friends bought a trailer for $500 to house men coming out of incarceration.
One Eighty became an official nonprofit in 2009, and Rusty resigned from leadership in 2022. One Eighty has
been led by a dynamic executive team of Dakotah Smith (Director of Operations), Jenny Halupnik (Director of
Engagement) and Carmen Fish (Director of Finance) for the past 4 years. With the retirement of Jenny Halupnik
and Carmen Fish, One Eighty seeks its next Executive Director.
In a short time, One Eighty has experienced incredible growth. Through the faithful dedication of a small,
devoted staff and an army of volunteers, God has taken One Eighty from the small trailer to an entire city block
of properties in the west central part of Davenport, Iowa, with hundreds of volunteers participating in initiatives
ranging from school-based ministries to a residential program to sober housing. What began as one man’s
dream now changes the lives of hundreds every year and is forging a stronger and healthier community.

WHY THE QUAD CITIES?
Set along the Mississippi River where Illinois and Iowa meet, the Quad Cities—Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island,
and Moline—offer the accessibility and affordability of a mid-sized region with the amenities and cultural life of a
much larger community. With a regional population of roughly 400,000, the area combines a Midwest friendliness
with strong civic engagement, a diverse economic base, and a quality of life that allows leaders to make a meaningful
impact both professionally and personally.
The Quad Cities are known for a cost of living well below the national average, short commute times, and a range of
housing options—from historic riverfront neighborhoods to newer suburban developments and rural acreages within
a short drive. Families benefit from a mix of public, private, and faith-based schools, along with nearby higher education
institutions such as Augustana College and St. Ambrose University. The region’s central location also makes travel
manageable, with convenient access to Chicago, Des Moines, and other Midwest hubs.
The Quad Cities economy is anchored by advanced manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, logistics, and financial
services. Major employers include John Deere, whose world headquarters are located in Moline, the Rock Island
Arsenal, a United States Army manufacturing and logistics command center, as well as major health systems and a
growing network of small businesses and nonprofits. The region has a strong tradition of public-private collaboration
and philanthropic support, creating an environment where mission-driven organizations can thrive.
The Mississippi River shapes daily life in the Quad Cities. Residents enjoy more than 60 miles of connected riverfront
trails, extensive park systems, and year-round outdoor recreation. Cultural amenities include the Figge Art Museum,
the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, minor league sports, and a steady calendar of festivals, markets, and community
events. The region’s scale makes it easy to get involved, so leaders often find they can quickly build relationships and
see the tangible results of their efforts.
The Quad Cities have a long-standing and active Christian presence across a wide range of denominations, including
evangelical, mainline Protestant, Catholic, and non-denominational congregations. Churches of all sizes are engaged
in community outreach, recovery ministries, food distribution, mentoring, and partnerships with local nonprofits.
Regional networks and pastor associations foster collaboration and shared prayer, creating a supportive environment
for faith-centered leadership and ministry.
For leaders called to mission-focused work, the Quad Cities offer a rare balance: the ability to live comfortably, build
deep relationships, and contribute to visible, lasting change in a community that values both faith and service.
