ACCREDITATIONS & AWARDS One of the highlights of 2022 for <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s was becoming an accredited Teaching Family Association agency. Teaching Family Association is the accrediting agency of Teaching Family Model (TFM), a relational, evidenced-based, trauma-informed model of care focused on increasing life skill development in children and teens. The accreditation process took almost two and a half years. Best Christian Workplaces Institute is an employee engagement ministry dedicated to helping Christian leaders and organizations achieve their full potential by creating flourishing staff workplaces. In order to achieve this certification, organizations undergo a process involving surveys, a leadership review, and consulting services. <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s is honored to once again be certified as a Best Christian Workplace and looks forward to continuing efforts to improve workplace culture. <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s was nominated and accepted to join The National Register of Historic Places. The Wabash campus was established in 1850 and continues in operation today. Approval for the National Register was granted by the Indiana Historic Review Board and is listed through the National Park Service.

STORY OF JOSIAH WHITE’S <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s exists because of a mission set in motion in 1850 to help “the most deserted of children.” The goal was to help children in need obtain a quality education, grow in their spiritual development, and gain valuable work experience. <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s has grown from its founding in 1850 to become one of Indiana’s oldest and largest nonprofit social services agencies serving children, teens, and families, with offices around the state, including the residential campus in Wabash, Indiana. <strong>Josiah</strong> White was an influential businessman from Pennsylvania who was instrumental in developing the anthracite coal industry by improving waterway transportation along the Lehigh River. As a young man, <strong>Josiah</strong> entered the business world as an apprentice for a hardware store at the age of 14. He quickly learned and understood the business. By the age of 21, he had already been in business for himself and sold his hardware store with enough wealth to retire comfortably. With this, he was at a crossroads. He could live off his interest the rest of his days or he could continue to work and give away his wealth to good causes. He stated, “I finally concluded that I would be more likely to be happy in this world and in the other also, if I took the course that would be useful to others in all my undertakings and not eat my bread alone and in idleness.” With this decision, he worked diligently through trial and hardship until, as he was approaching age 65, he had amassed significant wealth through successfully revolutionizing the canal and coal industries. With his success, he desired to leave a lasting legacy of helping others. In his will, he left funds to purchase what is now <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s property in Wabash, Indiana, to begin serving “the most deserted of children.” Today, <strong>Josiah</strong> White’s carries out the legacy of the founder, whose heart’s desire was the following: “Then I should be in close communion with Him, who has gone to prepare mansions for me, to dwell with Him into the endless ages of all Eternity.”
