Platelet Rich Plasma

Dr. Schoenberger has been using platelet rich plasma to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions for the past ten years.

PRP promotes healing by stimulating tissue regeneration and repair. It is a concentrated sample of the patient's own blood creating a high level of platelets. Platelets are blood cells that contain growth factors and are critical to the wound healing process.

A small sample of the patient's blood is drawn in the office at the time of treatment, then centrifuged to concentrate the platelets. The PRP is then injected into the injured area after local anesthesia. Typically, the injection is done using ultrasound or fluroscopic guidance.

Many people may have heard about PRP in the context of treating elite athletes, but it works just as well for the rest of us.

Please feel free to give our office a call for any questions regarding PRP.
